I'd be the first to admit that my bird identification skills are not good, but surely I should I be able to separate Mistle and Song Thrush? I'm struggling with this old photo...

Tail

The spots are easy, once you know what to look for, but the tail is instantly definitive. You can see on this bird that the outer tail feathers are broadly tipped white...that is never the case in Song Thrush.

Aha, thanks for that tip Ian. I hadn't been paying attention to the tail in the shadow but now that you point it out I can see it.

Thanks all, that's settled it in double quick time!

I was leaning the right way, perhaps I should just have had a little more confidence. :)
