Common Green g/hopper

You're right. The Meadow Grasshopper is not in Ireland. Anyway, the wings are much too long for that species.

Thanks Michael, I had tried

Thanks Michael,

I had tried to ID this one some time ago, I was sure I had found images of Common Green which had lot of purple colouration but when googling last night, all I could find was purple female meadow grasshoppers. I couldnt find a list of Irish Grasshopper species but a friend told me some time ago that the Irish list was a very small no. of species.

5 Irish species

Large Marsh Grasshopper Stethophyma grossum (Centre and west)
Lesser marsh grasshopper Chorthippus albomarginatus (South west kerry to Clare)
Field grasshopper Chorthippus brunneus
Mottled grasshopper Myrmeleotettix maculatus are the other Irish grasshoppers. Only Common Green Omocestus viridulus and the last two occur in Co Antrim and most of north
