Funky Lichen

Moorland. I remember seeing a picture of 'Soldier Lichen' in a book once, and this looked similar to my memory of that. It may be a similar species, however, but I'm sure it will be a Cladonia.


Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

If only I'd spent a little

If only I'd spent a little more time researching, though I must say the common name of 'British Soldier Lichen' through me off a bit as far as distribution was concerned.

Common Names

Hi - Common names are never reliable as they can vary so much regionally and accross the world However the General appaearance Re British Soldier Lichen relate to the red ceremonial tunics of the soldiers . It is also generally referred to as Matchstick Lichen
