Unidentified Moorland Ant
Description:

Chose 'heathland' as the habitat as moorland wasn't an option. They looked like large ants, or at least larger than the Lasius niger I see most often. Size-wise, I'd say roughly a cm long (give or take a mm or so)

From the habitat and northern

From the habitat and northern location, more than likely Formica lemani, backed up by generally ashy appearance caused by greater body pubescence compared with F. fusca.
