Description:

I saw this nest or burrow when walking along the pathway at a country park near me recently. It is not the least bit concealed,it is literally right on the edge of the path. The opening is roughly about the diameter of a two pound coin. With hundreds of walkers and cyclists using this path every day,it's certainly not in the safest of places.I wondered if it was a small mammal nest,or even an insect creation. Thanks for any suggestions.

Mammal

Almost certainly a small mammal, looking at the size. Far to big for a solitary bee, I would say. Could it even be a disturbed mole hill, possibly?
