Large group of dark pinkish/orange brown more or less spherical blobs (stromata) about 9 mm across growing on a fallen log, each covered in small darker 150 micron diameter spots (ostioles). Cross section showed the mass is hard and black/sepia, with egg-shaped hair-lines cavities (perithecia) just beneath brown surface, each about 500 microns deep, 400 microns across. A slice of the cap yielded orange/brown pigment when a few drops of 10% aqueous Potassium hydroxide solution (KOH) are added. Spores were brown, kidney/crescent shaped, 9-14 x 4-7 microns.
