Fruticose lichen growing in carpet over extensive area among grass, heather and moss on maritime heath.


Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Probably portentosa

I have clicked agreement as this does seem to be C. portentosa, in particular the ultimate branches seem to be in threes.

However, just where you photographed this there are other, similar species, including the very similar but very much rarer C. mitis, which has slightly neater branch tips, arranged in fours. Anything from that area I check with chemical tests and UV light.
