The plant in the photo is likely to be a Euphorbia (Spurge) , many of which occupy the same niche as cactuses in the old world.
Hi Michael, having looked at both moths they are very very similar. From the image provided I agree that it would be difficult to say which one it was. Therefore I think your Genus ID is safer. Regards Chris.
