I almost let them go, just the black mark on the wing made me look twice. I'll look more carefully in future.

Yeah Small Quaker was another I considered for my small worn ones this am but I felt there were species actually closer looking to the common quaker than small quaker. I'd say you wouldnt have been the first person to let a moth go without making a solid ID- there are some just so similar, but with pics recorded you sometimes discover way down the line that your moth is a species other than you thought.
It can be a very pleasant surprise.
