Hi, you have inadvertently got the names the wrong way round, easily done. The Latin name should be in the brackets.
It is undoubtedly a woodpecker hole and I'm not doubting it was a Great Spotted variety but it is going to be difficult for people to agree as we didn't actually see it.
If you revise the ID it might be worth considering entering the family name for woodpeckers rather than the species, just a thought. Regards Chris.
