If it is a Carpet Beetle, the larvae are called "Wooly Bears" and can sometimes damage wool, though when I've found them, they've usually been living in dusty corners and not doing much damage (about the only advantage to having a synthetic carpet)! The adults are OK, eating pollen and nectar. Probably wise to evict it, though. In the wild, the young would live in birds nests.
