Lecanora chlarotera

White/grey crustose lichen with brown fruiting bodies. Margins same colour as lichen surface.


Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Revised identification

Thank you for the revised identification. I am a complete lichen novice so I am happy that I at least got the genus right.

Do you know of a key that will help me with lichen on stone?

I don't know of any online keys to UK lichens on rocks (the so-called saxicolous species). Frank Dobson's excellent field guide, now in its 6th edition, has keys for the major genera, including Lecanora. Identification of many species requires chemical spot tests, and some need looking at under a microscope.
