do you have any more photos of this bird? - particularly any which show the eye clearly. This one has a hint of paleness, which I wish to check out before I confirm the identification.
Common Gulls have dark eyes, Ring-billed Gulls have a pale yellow eye and I am left wondering if this is a trick of the photo, or whether this might be a hybrid.
I can't see that, on this bird. The eye looks dark to me and while the upperparts are a bit pale on top, that is probably just the light.
My Flickr photos...
Yes I agree the upper parts and bill appear like Common Gull, but when I saw the full sized image, I thought I could see a slightly pale Iris - hence my request for any other photos - possibly just a trick of the light
I've added three more photos. I don't think I can make out a paler iris. I'm seeing a dark reddish-brown iris surrounding the black pupil.
Laughing Gulls are supposed to be a bit bigger than Commons. This one was on the edge of a flock of Black-headed Gulls, and relative to these, the size looked about what I'd expect for a Common Gull. As we're talking hybrid rather than pure Laughing though, the size may not mean much.
Many thanks - while there is a hint of paleness in the iris, but having seen these I'm happy this is a Common Gull (pure).
All the best
