Distinguishing characters

For Vicia sativa:
Flowers usually in pairs 1-2(4); upper and lower calyx teeth equal; calyx teeth as long as the tube

For Vicia sepium:
Flowers 2-6; lower calyx teeth longer than upper;
calyx teeth shorter than the tube

The flowers are in pairs in the photographs. Unfortunately, the calyx teeth are not visible on the open flowers. On the shriveled flower below and on the buds above they appear to be equal.

Many thanks. So would a side-on shot of the flower show both calyx and tube so they could be compared (a close-up obviously with the macro lens) when I look for these species?

Yes, I now try to photograph flowers from the front, side

and back to be sure of getting enough information. Plus of course basal leaves, stems etc.
