is it possible to say why it's one and not another, the grassland habitat?
latest pics and diptera videos
For Vicia sativa:
Flowers usually in pairs 1-2(4); upper and lower calyx teeth equal; calyx teeth as long as the tube
For Vicia sepium:
Flowers 2-6; lower calyx teeth longer than upper;
calyx teeth shorter than the tube
The flowers are in pairs in the photographs. Unfortunately, the calyx teeth are not visible on the open flowers. On the shriveled flower below and on the buds above they appear to be equal.
Many thanks. So would a side-on shot of the flower show both calyx and tube so they could be compared (a close-up obviously with the macro lens) when I look for these species?
and back to be sure of getting enough information. Plus of course basal leaves, stems etc.
