Description:

A flightless female low down on the trunk of a young Alder, this morning. She looks as if she had a rough night!

Interesting. All the other dotted borders in the carousel have wings, so this may be the first female of the species on iSpot.

David Howdon went one better and got a pair in cop, I think, if you look back through the carousel. Amazing how species like this can operate so early in the season...it was -3 when I took the photo.

Good find Ophrys, Havent seen

Good find Ophrys,
Havent seen one yet myself, is it just a matter of a lot of searching where the males are abundant?

Trunks

I do spend a lot of time looking at sunny tree trunks, early in the morning. Early and late in the season, and early in the morning in the summer, I find that they are one of the best places to look for a variety of invertebrates, especially flies. Having said which, I only found this moth because I was bird ringing and was just about to tie a guy rope around the tree!
