Approximately 9-10 inches in length, and an absent crimson spot on the nape suggests it is an adult female.
Definitely female, yes. Not necessarily adult, though, as they are hard to age from a photo. If it was born last year, it would still retain some juvenile feathers at the moment, but you would not see that in the photo.
