meridionalis

Yes, I am confused over what subspecies this should be. Collins Guide says koenigi for the Canary Islands, and shows meridionalis with a clear, thin white supercilium, which this bird lacks. But I have seen other sites say that Canary Islands birds are meridionalis. It all goes to prove that there is much to be sorted out within the Great Grey taxonomy.

Great pictures, whatever it is!

koenigi

Harris and Franklin Shrikes and Bush-Shrikes Helm 2000 p156 have the Canary Island subspecies as koenigi. Though they do devote almost the entire introduction to the difficulties of taxonomy.
