Orange and black butterfly or moth on impatiens in my garden back in 1995/6
No interactions present.
It's a butterfly; not a native one though.
Many thanks Chris Brooks and Douglas, have been meaning to scan this photo in for ages, it was before I had digital,a Banded Orange Heliconian (Dryadula phaetusa) I wonder where it came from, strange that was the first year one could get Salmon coloured Impatiens and I treated myself to them.
Hi, either it escaped from a butterfly farm or it came in as a larvae on an import which is probably more likely. I think the mid 90's had some very hot summers, so perhaps conditions allowed it to mature into a butterfly. Very unusual sighting though, regards Chris
