Black cap, white patch on back of head. Duller than the other tits in the garden. White flash on wings.

It's an easy trap to fall into, as Great Tit show a slight pale patch on the back of the head. On Coal Tit, though, that patch is much bigger and more obvious. Coal Tit also has no real yellow on the underparts, and no blue/green on the upperparts; it is basically grey and white. It also appears smaller than this rather long Great Tit. You'll know it when you see it!

Thanks. I believe that there are Great Tits, Blue Tits and Coal Tits in the garden, because there seems to be a variety of sizes and shades of colour, but I find it difficult at the moment to distinguish between them as the colours do not seem to be as vivid as in the ID guides.
