Males or females?

coelebs meaning 'bachelor' refers to the fact that the species flocks up in same-sex flocks, sometimes. There is some suggestion amongst ringers (north-west) that this is a 'female' year, apparently. I don't have enough around (seems like a thin year for them round here) to comment, but has anyone else noticed a predominance of females over males?
