It is about 4" long.
No interactions present.
It's certainly an insect in order Orthoptera, which includes crickets and grasshoppers. I'm not familiar with the South African fauna I'm afraid, but you could try posting it on the South African version of iSpot:
Probably best to post it under "Invertebrates" rather than "Other organisms", more people are likely to see it there (and if you wish to change the group on this site you can do so by clicking on the "Edit" tab towards the top of this page).

Did someone not decide to abandon subspecies and thus it is not linking (as species rank IDs) to the dictionary?
1. Call in Alex.
2. Hunt them down.
In 5.5 hours' time my "real" work year starts. This year will not allow for as much iSpotting as I would like. So I am unlikely to pursue this problem.
Add in the species as a synonym of the subspecies meantime.
