Description:

Possible red squirrel footprints? As they were less staggered we thought it was less likely they were rat prints. In an area where we saw a red squirrel.

Prints

These prints were made by your local pussy cat, note the absence of claw marks; only cats would not show claw marks in such soft snow. Squirrels have long, thin fingers if you do a quick search here on iSpot you'll find pictures of squirrel prints.
