Thanks Michael

I wasn't sure because I'd heard that there were long-winged versions of the SWC, but there's nothing about this in my insect guide (Chinery). Maybe I should invest in an Orthoptera guide. Any recommendations?

Orthoptera books

There is a useful little photographic guide by Martin Evans and Roger Edmondson. I don't have a copy so can not give you the ISBN number. As you live in Kent, you might also find Grasshoppers and Crickets of Surrey by David Baldock useful. This is published by the Surrey Wildlife Trust ISBN 0 9526065 4 2.

Thank you, it would be useful

Thank you, it would be useful to have a more comprehensive guide. Chinery is useful to an extent, but I'm not always 100% confident when using it to ID species.
