Description:

The bird on the right has the autumn/winter grey streaking, whereas the bird on the left has the summer plumage's white head. Are such plumage differences down to individual variation?

argentatus

You may well be right on the subspecies, but there are more extreme examples of argentatus, which are really obviously different to argenteus. The top bird convinces me more than the bottom one. I'd just leave them as Larus argentatus.
