Mistley Swans
Description:

Just around the corner from the building at the top of the photo is a quay which was used by barges and coasters to transport grain and malt from an extensive maltings. most of this complex is now housing with some malting still carrying on although transport is by road. The result was a vast number of swans feeding on grain spillage and an attraction to the area. The swans still remain and are fed regularly by volunteers in the part of the shoreline depicted. Large numbers of visitors also supplement their feed.
There are some 80 swans in the photograph and this is just a small part of the herd, seen here preening and making ready for the breeding season.
