Description:

After the recent debate about hoof fungus, here is what I think is a southern version. The 3 specimens were close to each other on a fallen birch which also had birch polypore fruiting. Underside shot of pores and oblique cross section are from the top specimen.

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Pores

I managed to catch one as the pores were just opening. I did not realize how good they look until i got the image home. The first one with the small one fused is the best.

My location

Mine specimens are in a wood that is a bit off the beaten track and is used by illegal bikers. Difficult for the police to catch them even with the chopper!
