Owl pellet
Field Study walk Hunterston 091

It would be deadly for an owl to pass these sharp bones through the intestine so they regurgitate what is left of the meal seen here as a pellet. The powerful muscles of the gizzard squeeze the bolus remains into a pellet that would allow the owl to cast out the remains.

It is possible it was some other raptor but there were owl nesting boxes near by so I just concluded that it was reasonable to assume owl.
