Redpoll

This is a Lesser Redpoll, which is the British bird. flammea is the continental Redpoll, which is larger and paler, usually. That could turn up in your garden, but you would probably notice the paler rump and the more frosty appearance overall.

Super little birds, aren't they!

Naming

My (admittedly ancient) bird book has the genus as Acanthis, and says flammea is the species and cabaret is the (usual UK) sub-species. Has that changed?

Redpoll taxonomy

Yes - Lesser Redpoll (C. cabaret) has been split from Common Redpoll (C. flammea)
