Description:

I am researching moths as indicators of ecological networks in urban areas. I have trapped moths and obtain my results but I have to now classify the plans from where I trapped to link the plant species to the moth species. Any help in classifying these plants would be much appreciated.

Plant id's

You really need to load each photo up separately for an observation, but in the meantime I'll do my best, left to right:
1.Hebe
2.Spiraea x bulmalda
3.Hypericum ' Hidcote'
4. Sambucus nigra 'Laciniata Purpurea'
5.Don't know!
6. Rosa ' American Pillar
7.Spiraea
8.Osteospermum ecklonis
9. Lychnis flos-jovis
10.Hypericum ' Hidcote'
11.Photinia x fraseri
12.Prunus laurocerasus
13 and 14.Several plants here, not sure which ones you want named, you would do so much better uploading each photo!

Plant Selection

Hi Louis,
You have presented quite a challenge! I've had a look through them and I think I can help you with a few.
Photo 2 - Spirea (I think!)
" 3 - Hypericum
" 4 - Acer (the purple-leaved one)
" 6 - Rosa spp.
" 9 - Lychnis spp.
" 11 - Photinia

I hope this is of some help.

No 5!

Number 5 - the ui shrub - could be either Viburnum tinus (would have white flowers from Dec-April) or an Elaeagnus. Possibly! As mentioned above - separate photos would help...

Acer - oops!

Must get new glasses! Have had a closer look at No. 4 and I can see now it is not an Acer. If I were you I would go with David and Foxglove.
