Can anyone help please on the sub-species of Herring Gull, it's new to me.

argentatus, the Scandinavian subspecies is larger and has more white in the wingtip of adults, often. It often looks thicker set and 'wilder' with a lot of dark streaking on the head and neck. The mantle can be darker than on our birds. However, there will be much overlap with our own, slightly smaller argenteus subspecies. I personally do not think that these odd shots are assignable to subspecies at this time of year (when both are found in this country), and with plumages which are not full adult, especially. Size is difficult to judge from the photos, especially in flight.
