Foxglove

Looks like D. purpurea to me - my book says that it is 'familiar in gardens but native ... sometimes white'; and is found in 'woods, heaths, banks, preferring acid soils' (Blamey, Fitter and Fitter - Wild Flowers of Britain and Ireland). Hope this helps!
