ID Question

Firstly am I correct, if so is this a male as it seems to have a slightly different abdominal shape to a previous post I made.

Definitely correct. The thorax pattern, displaying the 'bat' silhouette, is quite distinctive. Holoptic eyes (touching on top of the head) are the normal way to tell a male, in most species of hoverfly; this is a male, then. Females would have the eyes well separated.
