Description:

White-grey branched lichen growing in bundles on the ground at back of sand dunes. Bundles noticeable from a distance. Branching tips appear to end with light brown drooping ‘fingers’. Possibly Cladonia arbuscula.

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Cladonia portentosa

Went to see the seals so coming across lichens on the ground was a bonus. Thank you for the identification and information and for confirming identities of other lichens I came across on and near the sand dunes. Have concentrated on lichens on trees so far so interested to see some of the intricacies of lichens growing on the ground.
