Can no-one help please?
any details which may help to identify these? Habitat, foodplant, gall, etc. Some of the gall inhabiting species are fairly host specific.
Thanks David. They were on the grass 'verge' of a farm track. with hedge and trees behind, on thistle seed heads. No galls noted at the time.
sorry, no idea, some of the Dipterist's may know more. There is a Jaapiella species which lives in thistle flower heads according to Redfern et al., however, this forms a gall (distorted flower head) and differs in other ways. To determine these would probably need to rear them out and make slides.
Thanks very much for your input anyway! Much appreciated!
(If I find more next year I might try rearing them!)
