The first photo was found in between large rocks at low tide and the second washed up shore on the shingle. Not sure if they are the same type as they differ in colour

Chondrus crispus

Colour and form are highly variable in this species, which has separate male and female plants. The plant on the left is probably a female because the photo shows small swellings which look like cystocarps. The one on the left does not have these; however, that does NOT prove it is male - it could be an immature female.
