This fungus was growing on a birch tree.


Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Useful fungus

This is a useful fungus. In the past it was used as tinder (for fire lighting) and if cut flat and dried it can be used to keep a razor blade sharp!
Also, it can be used as a styptic!
