your dark bird is just another hen pheasant but its a mutation commonly referred to as a melanistic. I read this morning online that the melanistic pheasant is a 'pure breed' in its own right on an American bird forum, but I think the birds we see here are mutants, interbred birds and both types can appear in the one brood?
