Agrypnia varia

Inclined to agree that this is a speckled peter caddisfly, but not certain that the wing markings are diagnostic for this species. Certainly think it is in the Phryganeidae family. I believe that the scientific name is currently Agrypnia varia rather than Phryganea

Thanks for the info Inopinatus,

Its quite an old book that gives the name P. varia and I know caddis flies have undergone a lot of name changing in recent decades.

I thought the name varia maybe indicated that there was quite a degree of variation in this species appearance?

I have another interesting caddis from the same water, I think it might be the same species but its quite different but for the pale dot in the same position, its almost black and white, I'll post it soon.
