Common frog

During the recent mild weather, frogs began calling from my pond on Sunday, 4th December. We often hear occasional "one-off" calls, but these were consistent - just like the usual February frenzy, although not in high numbers. Our pond has been renewed within the last year, and we had no spawn in the Spring. Here`s hoping!

If spawn was to have been laid on this date (it wasn`t) would the tadpoles have survived?

The spawn stage can be vulnerable, especially if the pond freezes. I think the tadpoles might have a good chance of survival, but would only grow very slowly in the cold water. If the pond froze solid they would not survive.
