What makes you say that? And

What makes you say that? And what about teh underside photos?

Holly Blue

The undersides are all Holly Blues. On the upperside the female Holly blue has extensive black tips to the forewings, which can be seen in the two photos of the butterfly with the damaged forewing. Even the males have a thickening of the thin black edging to the blue at the apex of the forewing . In addition the Holly blue has chequered fringes, at least on the forewings. In the upperside photos it can be seen that there is no chequering.

OK, thanks, Michael. My book

OK, thanks, Michael. My book doesn't show those details. In fact as far as the black tips to the forewings are concerned, it shows the exact opposite - the male with extensive black tips, and the female with just a little thickening. But just because it's in print doesn't mean it's true!
