Found in freshwater pond in wildlife area next to river Foss.
No interactions present.
There are rather more than two species of water boatman in the UK - if ir was over 11mm it is likely to be one of the Corixa a genera that includes several simalar species.
It could also be one of genus Sigara
I do not think it is a member of either of the other two genera
Hi! Thanks for your comment :-)
I forgot to put that it was approx 10 or 11mm in length. There were 15 of these organisms in a sample I took from the pond - as far as I could tell they all appeared to be the same species (I had a light and a magnifying glass so could have a fairly good look)
I only had Corixa genus in my book that looked similar but I will look up Sigara genus now you've mentioned it - thank you!
I'm new to freshwater invertebrates so any help is much appreiciated!
