Description:

The swan mussel shells are found around the pond margins and I am interested in how they get there. I'm assuming some animal brings them there.

Swan Mussels

It is probably the work of Mink or Otters, it would depend on what predators you have in the area. Its worth checking the shells for teeth marks.

If the shells have been opened cleanly then it's probably the work of humans, I believe Swan Mussels are protected by the law.
