Description:

About 8 inches across. Growing on stump of what appeared to be a pine tree.

it looks more like Piptoporus

it looks more like Piptoporus betulinus to me. Are you sure it was a pine stump and not a birch.

Difficult to tell as there

Difficult to tell as there were both pines and birches in that area and the stump was well rotted.
