Plants

Mosses are plants in the division Bryophyta. Many are difficult to identify to species level from a photograph (especially one that doesn't show the details clearly), and some require microscopic analysis.

Bryophyta

I agree with Nigel; I had a session at the Local Records Centre identifying moss species. At that level it does need Bryophyte keys and digital microscopy. Equipment we don't carry round with us. Regards

Thanks Nigel and Hugh!

Many thanks for your learned comments - I have difficulty loading high res pics to the site - anything above 100kb or so leads to a 'circle of doom' !!

More pics

I have managed to add a few more pics with slightly higher resolution using a different machine - depth of field / focus still an issue and appreciate that positive id difficult - will invest in a decent macro lens one of these fine days!
