E. euryale

Many thanks. Could well be.... It's the variability and regional forms that throw me when trying to ID butterflies... I'd considered this species based on pics and descriptions on http://www.eurobutterflies.com/species_pages/euryale.htm and it looms like maybe 2 out of 10 pics here, and the checkered edge fits, but I couldn't see any white pupils in the black spots this link mentions (but they're invisible in some of Rowling's shots). But if other species are eliminated, I'll go with this ID unless anyone else has a good reason to update it!
