cycads

Cycad is not a latin name and the family Cycadaceae has only one genus Cycas. The female cones of Cycas have leaf-like scales unlike those pictured. This plant is not in the Cycadaceae. On the other hand this large solid cone is typical of Encephalartos in the Zamiaceae.
