I came across this creature in the garden early summer time. Location is Twickenham, greater London UK. Roughly 25mm in length.

Their own larvae are parasites to bees and wasps...The female bee fly lays her eggs where they can be easily be picked up by host insects and transported back to the nest where the young bee flies feed off the wasp and bee larvae.
