Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

I don't know if you already have this one but I have just got a book on Hygrocybes and it is excellent.Have you any photo's of the gills as they should be subdecurrent, very viscid stem or moist.
I've been using the keys. To be honest I'd given up on Waxcaps because I got very few responses when I came home from holiday (6 with nothing). I think Alan has been away or busy! Thank you for yours! I would love a book on Hygrocybes - I'll look on Amazon.

It is called The Genus Hygrocybe (hardback)I got it from a company in Cumbria and like you got sick of just putting on the Genus and not able to id them it was quite expensive but worth it as I think I am now going to try and focus on these and hopefully learn more.I do think that we rely on Alan to ID them for us.The other tip in the book is to cut the stem in half as some that look very similar have different coloured flesh and that's how you tell.I also got a book on The Genus Lactarius,The Genus Hebeloma and the Genus Agaricus were for Christmas so no present's under the tree for me now.
Your books sound brilliant, and what a lovely Christmas to have something you are going to enjoy hopefully for years. I'll do a Google search today and drop hints to friends and family for maybe half a book!!
I must admit I do hope Flaxton, Alan, increasingly Martincito and of course yourself will see and agree or comment on my IDs. It puts the gloss on the find somehow. I admire your proactive attitude.
The book seller's address is Summerfield Books,3 Phoenix Park,Skelton,Penrith,CA11 9SD Telephone number is 17684 84909.If you type in the seller's name it should come up.They specialise in Botanical books as I could not find any on Amazon either. If you don't have any luck I will get the invoice off my other half and find the details
I think the problem is that there are not enough of use so we have to stay positive and gain experience,we'll be fantastic next year.
