Eggs or cocoons?

Observed: 1st March 2011 By: catkin
eggs or cocoons?
Description:

Found behind a kitchen cupboard. This is only a small group from a larger cluster. They were only loosely attached to each other. The newspaper gives an idea of scale - each app 0.5cm. The photo doesn't show the slight silvery sheen. The only insect inhabitants of the kitchen I'm aware of are spiders and occasional silverfish.

Mystery dollops

Looks like droppings to me - of what, I couldn't hazard a guess. Most eggs or cocoons of the same creature tend to be a much more ovoid shape. On the other hand, they may be a food store. Is it possible for you to send a sample to the Natural History Museum? I do hope someone can ID them.
