Compton Verney Fungi

Description:

Bracket type fungi located on old Oak tree, which is living but has been reduced some time ago to a 5m stump. Fungi appears approx 1.5m up the stem.

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

I'd say this one was not hoof

I'd say this one was not hoof fungus because of the brown spores as martinjohnbishop points out. It might be Ganoderma but not fully convinced by this either.
